The first thing to mention about Milford Sound is that it is not actually
a sound. It is a Fjord, but the name had stuck by the time it was realized.
We took a one hour cruise of Milford Sound which was expensive, but worth
every cent. When we started out it was raining, but by the time we got
most of the way out it had cleared off quite a bit. The height of the
mountains is impossible to show with pictures. It is something you really
have to see. There are 2 pictures with a ship in it showing how small
they are in comparison to some mountains. But realize that I those mountains
don't stop where the picture does. They continue to rise after that. Also
you will notice clouds that appear in the pictures by the mountains. That
shows how high were really were. Also the waterfalls were really active
that day because it had been raining.
