Bungy jumping is something that I have always wanted to do, as well as the sky dive. However, I was advised by my doctor & massage therapist to not do the bungy because of the pressure it would put on my knee. However, with the Auckland Harbour Bungy they can attach the bungy to your upper body, which takes all the pressure off of your knees. Knowing this I decided to do it. Kate (roommate from the UK) went as a spectator to the jump.
They first get you all signed up at their shop at the base of the bridge. You then walk across about half of the bridge (outside on steel stairs). The walk out is beautiful because of the views you have. It is also high & made Kate a bit nervous because she is afraid of heights. We made it out to the platform & watched several people jump before it was my turn. They sit you down in this seat, where you can already see the drop a bit, & get you all strapped in. Then they give you the instructions & take you out to the edge of the platform. At this point you give your final wave & jump. For me it was a little different. Since most people are strapped from their ankles they jump right from the edge. However, since I had my legs free I was allowed to take a 2-step running start. I also had to hold the strap in front of me with one hand when I jumped. Lastly, I was told that I needed a good jump, there was to be no hesitation, because if you will not have a very good jump. So when I got to the edge I was more nervous than I thought I would be. Also just before he started my countdown (from 5 to jump), he said wait just s second we want to make sure that boat is clear. That didn't help my nerves any. But then he said it was all OK & started the countdown. I started running at 2 & heard one as I was going off the platform. It is weird because at first you are still running (like the people that run off cliffs in cartoons). After a few seconds I realized that wasn't working so I put my arms out like I had wings or something. Then your body just kind gives up & you relax. The cord brings you back up about 3-4 times. That is really cool as well, because then you start to really enjoy the view & the ride. Overall it is really cool.
The pictures don't get much bigger when you click on them, because you don't get to take your own pictures & the site I got them from only had them in a small size (unless you want to pay like $25 per picture). I already have the hard copy pictures in the large size so I declined.
