Australia - 2005-01-06 - Royal National Park - Trekking (Page 1)
After 2 days waiting (one for bad weather & one for my UPS package from
home) Dave & I were able to go to Royal National Park. We missed our first
shot at the ferry by 2 minutes (we didn't know the schedule). So we went
back to town got a Boost (fruit smoothies, which I love) & waited for
the next one. On the ferry ride to Bundeena we met 2 Swiss girls who we
walked part of the track with. It was a relaxing ride across Port Hacking.
We saw some interesting things like people walking across the port, since
it isn't very deep. We also saw garages that had rails for boats to come
out of them. Once we got to Bundeena we had a 20 minute or so walk to
get to the park & another 10 minutes to get to the Coastal Walk. The Coastal
Walk is a 26 kilometer 2-day walk. So we were only able to part of the
walk, but it gave us a glimpse of the park's beauty. The cliffs along
the sea were really something to behold. Also the rocks & color of the
rock that you see changes really drastically. We walked about 1.5 hours
before the girls decided to go back to catch the 5pm ferry & because of
bad choice of walking shoes (sandals). After this Dave & I walked on until
we found a shaded place to eat our packed lunch. Next we walked to Big
Marley beach. On the beach I saw my first Jellyfish. There were actually
around 10-15 that had been stranded by the tide on the beach. After crossing
Big Marley beach & we decided we should go back to make the 6pm ferry.
We got back in Bundeena around 5pm. We decided to go to a local bar for
a drink to celebrate our trek. However, the bar we went to wanted us to
remove our bandanna's & were sleeved shirts, so we just went to the local
supermarket & got some big Toohey's New beers (Australian beer). We drank
them while we waited for the ferry & the ride back home. It was a really
cool day & Royal National Park is simply incredible, it is a must see
in my book.
