Australia - 2005-02-12 - 1 - Sydney - Parents, Aunt & Uncle Arrive
I never thought I would say that my parents have been to Australia, but
as of 7am on February 12, 2005 I was proved wrong :) My parents (Bill
& Sheri) & my aunt/uncle (Charlene & Rodney) flew from Madison, Wisconsin
(USA) to San Francisco, California (USA) & lastly to Sydney, Australia.
They left home at 11am on February 10th & touched down in Sydney at 7am
on February 12th. They were supposed to fly at 4pm from Madison, but since
they were so early the people there moved them up to the 2pm flight. This
also gave them more time to transition at O'Hare International Airport.
They said the flight from Chicago to San Francisco was not very turbulent,
but there were no empty seats. This meant that they had absolutely no
room to move & said it felt like the longest leg of the journey. During
the flight from San Francisco to Sydney they experience severe turbulence
& even hit an air pocket that made to plane drop. Dad said he was standing
up & it dropped so much that it made him fall to his knees. It also gave
mom a bruise on her leg because it knocked her off where she was sitting.
This flight was better in the fact that they all 4 got to sit together
& they had more room. They were at the very back of the plane but had
the 4 middle seats in the row of the 747 They were next to the toilets
which was also nice. They got fed a ton so they were not very hungry as
United Airlines fed them well. They were very tired after the 24 hours
in the air & at airports. By the time they got through immigration, baggage
& customs it was about 8:45. I was there to meet them & saw them right
away (even though I had guessed they would be at Gate C). I spotted Dad
& his red shirt :) It was great to see them in person, it is a day that
I will for sure never forget.
