Australia - 2005-03-11 - 1 - Melbourne - Carlton Gardens & Melbourne Museum
Miriam (from England) & myself took the free tram to the Carlton Gardens.
We made our way through the trees, flowers & fountains on the way to the
Melbourne Museum. The museum was very nice, it had lots of interactive
& interesting exhibits. My favorite was the fourth oldest computer in
the world (oldest on display), which was build in Australia. It filled
an entire room, was incredibly fragile & really didn't have that much
power, but it was the beginning of what we had today. It was made with
a similar design to the other computer of the time. I also learned the
origin of the word bug. Today when you have a problem with a computer
program you say there is a bug in the program. Well with the old computer
a large bug had flown into the computer & became electrocuted. It shut
down the computer & they had to replace several parts. So they started
saying there could be a bug when there was a problem with the computer.
