Australia - 2005-03-25 - 1 - Devils Gullet - Great Views & Nature (Page 1)
While Adrian & Claudia were going to the Mole Creek Caves, which I had
been to I decided that I would take the short drive to Devil's Gullet.
What I didn't realize was the trip I was in for. The short drive ended
up being mostly on winding paved roads at first. Then it was 14K one way
on a gravel road that barely classified as a road. The car bounced the
whole way up & on the way back I caught a rut that almost drug me into
the ditch. This was all even though I was going extremely slow (which
I usually would not do with the rental car). I also missed the Devil;s
Gullet walk site the first time by & only saw it the second time by seeing
the cars there. Although in the end it was all worth it as I saw some
beautiful landscape by missing the turn off the first time. When I was
looking at the flowers I have in the second row of pictures I realized
that it was starting to snow. I had not seen it snowing yet in Australia
so that was interesting. It was obviously very cold & I wore my sweater
for most of the mini-trip. The gullet itself was well worth the effort
as well. It was a breath taking view of the area & I could even see Cradle
Mountain from it. There were over 10 mountains you could see from the
platform as well the drop off below. I was not able to stay long though
because it was an open platform which very harsh winds. In the 5 minutes
I was there I lost almost all the feeling in my hands. So I ran back down
to the car to get warmed back up. On the way back down the mountain I
stopped at a few other viewing platforms as well. The pictures don't really
do it just, but it was really cool, even though the drive was the worst
I have had in Australia.
