Australia - 2005-04-12 - 1 - Wentworth - Perry Sandhills
This morning went really well. We got up early & had a good breakfast
of eggs, beans & toast. Then we got packed up & caught some morning showers
at the camping place (where we had stayed to prove New South Wales residency).
After that we went to the Registration place expecting a tough change.
However, after we filled out the 4 page form it went really easy & was
even a little cheaper than we thought (if you can call $125 for changing
a name on a form cheap). After that we went to the post office to send
packages back home. This one had Harley Davidson shirts for my parents
in it, plus other random stuff from the trip I didn't have room in my
bag for anymore. After that we tried to find Internet, but as it tends
to happen in the small towns it was not possible. After that we went to
the visitor center to see what we could so on the way to Adelaide. The
extremely locally proud & helpful woman at the Wentworth outlined a full
day worth of activities we needed to do in Wentworth. We decided to do
the 2 of them that sounded good to us. The first was the Perry Sandhills.
They are an orange/peach color & so hot. When you would take your sandals
off to walk on them, you would not last more than 5 seconds before having
to put the sandals back on. There is also a picture of a sand plant watermelon
vine & melon. We decided to try our luck & got the most bitter taste I
have had on the trip. I had to drink some juice & eat something to get
rid of the taste. After that we explored around looking at the color of
the sand & the trees & bushes that grew there. It was well worth the stop,
even though we were covered in sand by the time we got back to the vehicle.
