Australia - 2005-04-15 - 4 - Flinders Ranges National Park - Wilpena Solar Power Plant
The park entry fee was $7 for the truck, which is one of the few we had
to pay an entry to. After that we decided to stop at the first trail which
led to the Wilpena Solar Power system. It was really interesting to see
& read about how all this worked. It all fit in very well with the environment
& provided all the power to the town of resort / park town of Wilpena.
I was surprised that it took so many panels to get the energy it did,
but the only have a diesel backup generator, so it must do the job really
well. Since I have been traveling I have really started to take an interest
into alternative sources of power & ways to save power. Back in the US
we seem to not be very interested in either of these. I think we should
focus more on getting power from renewable sources like solar, wind &
hydro, instead of destroying the environment to get more oil, like President
Bush would like to do to Alaska. I don't want to get to political here,
but I just thought it a good point to mention this because everywhere
else I have traveled does much more than we do to conserve power & find
better ways to create it.
