After seeing the penguins & eating some lunch at the picnic tables we decided to go for a walk around the island. Penguin island is not that big but has so much wildlife. The first thing you notice about the island is the huge numbers of sea gulls. It is a nesting area for them & they are everywhere. When we at lunch we did not leave anything out & be anymore than a few feet away from it. They are very aggressive. As we walked on the path we heard them constantly cawing at us. They build the nests right near the path & will perch on the rail sometimes & don't like anyone near them. I have pictures of sea gulls nest & of little chicks spread out in the pictures. The second thing we saw (but first pictured) was a seal sunning himself on the beach. He didn't move much at all, but we had a good view of him from the path. We first walked to the beach & northern lookout, which are pictures on the first page. It was nice, peaceful place (other than the sea gulls). After relaxing there for a while we walked to the southern lookout. On the way we saw several lizards, which is pictured at the end of the first page & more on the second page of pictures. It was dark brown color & was much more plentiful on the southern part of the island. The last 6 pictures on the second page are of the view from the southern lookout.
Sayoko & I were sitting at the southern lookout when my cell phone rang. It was my friend Dani who I had met during the very first week of my trip. She was in Perth & wanted to meet for a drink that night. I had been in Perth for a while, but only sent a group e-mail, but it was only a few days before I left. I really wanted to talk to Dani again because I was interested to see what she had been doing. I talked it over with Sayoko & we decided that we would take the ferry back to the mainland & that she would wait in Rockingham while I went back to see Dani. She liked the beach & atmosphere, plus she could draw while there. So I headed back into the city to meet Dani. I met her & we had a great time talking about what we both had been doing & what our future plans were. After that I dropped her off & went back to meet Sayoko. After picking Sayoko up we started to head down the coast, but it was late & dark by this point. So what we did was stayed in Rockingham parking at the beach where there was a shower/toilet area. It was a nice place to sleep with a good view of the sea. It was not as far as we planned to get but things happen & you just have to roll with it :)
