Australia - 2005-06-01 - 3 - Shark Bay Marine Park - Shell Beach
Our next stop & our first within Shark Bay Marine Park was that of Shell
Beach. The ENTIRE beach is covered with shells. No sand, no rocks, just
shells. They even "mine" the area & use the shells for some kind of shell
dust. It is amazing the water there just keep washing shells up onto the
beach. Most are very small as you can see if you look at the picture with
Sayoko holding the shells. She filled her camera bag with them :) We spent
a long time just laying on the beach as listening to the water, which
has a much different sound when it hits shells than the normal rocks on
water sound. It was a really relaxing place. When leaving we decided to
write the beach name & our names in the shells. In addition to that it
was my dad's 60th birthday the next day on June 2, so I wanted to make
him a little shell beach birthday card. Lastly, I wanted to say hi to
my mom so created that one as well. One of the reasons this is so easy
is because the beach is almost like the see itself as it waves up & down.
So you can write on the side away from the water rather easily. You can
just drag your foot to make marks. My dad really like birthday card, said
it was one the best he ever got :)
