Australia - 2005-06-09 - 1 - The Kimberly - Galvan Gorge
We had just about everything packed up as the construction crew came up
to our truck. They asked us if we were planning to go to the gorge. We
said yes & they told us we had 45 minutes to do it because they were going
to be doing an explosion for construction that could make the area unsafe.
We left right away & did the short walk (about 10 minutes). Once in the
gorge I took a quick dip in water & we got some quick pictures before
making our way out well ahead of when they told us to be out by. It was
nice as there was a pond on the way in, lots of plants & nice rock. It
was good that it was short walk & was not one of those ones that hurrying
affects too much. There are some places you just can't rush, this was
nice, but would not be in that category. After getting back to the truck
we finished things & hit the road. Our first stop was the gas station
to fill the truck & the extra gas can, it cost us like $150 & which may
have been the most we paid, I don't remember. At least I can understand
gas prices being high in the Kimberly because it is so remote.
