Australia - 2005-06-10 - 10 - The Kimberly - Last Part & Reaching the Great Northern Highway
Here are the last pictures of the Kimberly. We had made it through the
roughest, most desolate place in Australia & lived to tell about it :)
We had stayed in nature for 4 days straight, no conveniences & really
roughed it. What an amazing adventure I would love to see more of the
Kimberly any time. The truck had taken a beating going through the Kimberly
& would get worse in the future. To add to the already broken windshield,
loose power steering belt, reverse shifting issue, oil leak, oil all over
the engine & starting issue, we now added occasional trouble opening the
back doors, loose/missing battery caps, a broken battery holder & no spare
tire. In the Kimberly the roads are so rough it would put any vehicle
through a tough test. Most of the people you see there are driving rented
vehicles, there is no wondering why. Although you really don't see many
people outside of Derby or El Questro because they are so close to the
main road. Even though I loved the Kimberly I was ready to get back to
civilization & do the drive to the Top End of Australia. Sayoko & I didn't
stay at the road intersection we drove on the Great Northern Highway to
Kununurra. It was so easy to be back on paved road driving, even though
it was dark at that point. It makes you realize just how rough the road,
back on the highway it felt like I didn't even need to steer, see how
much more you appreciate the little things.
