Hey Everyone,
After
getting an email about new year's resolutions from my English
friend Cally I started thinking about my new year's resolutions.
As I did that I thought about things I have done in years past
or along the way. Some of these things are close to my heart &
I thought I would pass these along to all of you. If you want
to totally ignore these feel free to do so, but if you were not
sure what to do yourself, I think these are things that can do
good the world, others & even yourself, with minimal effort.
If you haven't figured it out, one of my news year's resolution
is to try to make the world a better place instead of just complaining
about it :)
#1: How
you can do good for the world:
Simply put the world's fish supplies are under great strain &
a world without many types of fish is GOING to happen if we don't
change. We all know it would not be the first time humans have
made something go extinct. In the long run maybe even a world
without fish is possible, because when certain types of fish disappear
others will follow, nature is interlinked. If you have ever been
underwater in an ocean & imagine it all being gone, you would
realize how deeply I care about this issue. Due to this I have
gradually gave up all fish. What I ask you to do is not as drastic.
I would only ask that you don't eat the fish that are in real
danger now & eat fish that are more plentiful. The Monterey
Bay produces pocket guides which tell you which fish to avoid
(in red), which ones are a little better (yellow) & which
choices are the best (in green). The come out with an updated
version every 6 months. Here are the links to the Seafood Watch
program:

#2: How
to do good for others:
This is really easy one & painless to you. For all of those
who use Yahoo to search instead of going to www.yahoo.com go to
www.goodsearch.com. Good search uses the same exact search engine
yahoo does (yep the same results too!), but for every search you
do a penny goes to whatever charity you choose. I use it myself
now & it has worked fine, although sometimes I still use Google
as well. If you have a preferred charitable cause that is great,
if you don't please consider choosing the CCFA (Crohn's &
Colitis Foundation of America). The diseases they are helping
to treat are important to me, my family & several friends.
#3: How
to help yourself:
A typical new year's resolution people make is to be better financially.
If you want the best free financial advice you will ever get go
to www.fool.com. The company that runs this is called the Motley
Fool. You can sign up for paid services as well, but I have never
had to & it has always answered my financial questions.
I think
this is being said more all the time, for most people credit cards
are the reason they don't have more money. For people from the
US (sorry everyone else) the Motley Fool offers a credit card
(either Visa or MasterCard) which has no annual fee, & a 9.9%
annual percentage rate if you must carry a balance (the first
6 months is 0%). But it gives you 1% cash back on every purchase,
this may not seem like much, but I will have received a check
well over $100 for 2 years in a row & not paid them a cent
of finance charges. Most cards charge more for interest &
give you nothing back or only small rewards. Here is the link
for the credit card - https://wwwa.applyonlinenow.com/us/tmf5/
Well
I hope you all enjoy 2007. If you have any other easy ways to
help the world, your common man/women or ourselves feel free to
let me know, I am always looking for ways to make myself better
:)
Also
I have posted all my past email updates on my web site & did
a small redesign. There are ever 2 email updates from Bali &
Peru that I wrote but never sent since they were never finished.
These are all under the updates & thoughts section. I am working
on content from trip #1 & pictures from trip #2 to put online
in the coming weeks. I will email when I have more of this online.
Peace
& Love
